House projects are usually never-ending. The classic honey-do list can seem like an exercise in chipping away at a mountain with a spoon. But occasionally, a project is so fun it doesn’t seem like work at all. This was one of those projects.
We needed a new mailbox for a long time, and I had finally gotten around to buying a standard, post office approved model. All we needed to do was replace our rotting post with something acceptable, cement it in, and reattach our new mailbox. It would have taken a couple hours. Instead, my husband suggested that we needed to dream bigger. Being a sucker for a splash of color, I said yes. And so we did.
Introducing… Gerda the Giraffe. Our new mailbox may have taken us weeks to build and install, but it was a true labor of love. We combined his excellent engineering and design skills with my painting skills and artistic eye and came up with a beautiful, functional piece of art. To see how we did it, you can follow the step-by-step process at Instructables.com
Guido submitted the Giraffe project into the Epilog contest at the Instructables website. If you like it, please take a moment to vote for us! You may need to create an account to be allowed to vote, but it’s an excellent site and well worth it. I hope you are ready for the best mailbox ever:
